Brand new one from an absolute legend living Brian Jackson. Perhaps it's the somewhat common name, or perhaps that it was typically paired after the name "Gil Scott Heron", but he's not talked about as much as he should be. So let's talk about this new release on BBE!"It's Your World" is the first drop from a new Brian Jackson album helmed by Louie Vega & Kenny Dope (aka Masters At Work). I first heard pieces of this project as Louie Vega tested them out late in sets, in both Miami and Los Angeles last December. The moments stuck with me and left me wanting more (which is testament to DJs playing new and exciting previously unheard music in sets).Last week, I finally got to hear more, as this lead single was made public. And I love it! It's a 2025 version of a song Brian wrote, the first track on he and Gil's 1976 hybrid live/studio album of the same name. Featuring Raheem DeVaughn on vocals, and J. Ivy on the extended "single" version, and even an 11 minute more-extended version, should you need more of a fix. It channels the great energy of the original, and touches musically on key parts of the original song, but it adds tons of it's own "sauce" -- the groove, the vocal arrangement & harmonies, the break, and the sax solo all stand out as derivative but fresh. You can tell a lot of thought and work was put into this track. Much more than a simple cover.Highly recommended listening.
